Periyar Rationalist Digital Library & Research Centre

The History

‘Periyar Rationalist Digital Library & Research Centre’ is established at Periyar Thidal, Chennai, in a four-storey building. It has been constructed near Thanthai Periyar Memorial. It has been established on behalf of Periyar Self-Respect Propaganda Institution, the Trust founded by Thanthai Periyar.

This library was inaugurated after the lifetime of Thanthai Periyar on 17.09.1974, which was the 96th Birthday of Periyar. It was inaugurated as his Birthday remembrance by Dr.Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi, who was then the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The inauguration was presided over by Dr.Navalar Nedunchezhian, in the presence of Annai E.V.R. Maniammaiar. This library has attained enormous growth during the past 49 years. Shortly the Golden Jubilee of this library and research centre is to be celebrated in a grand manner.
