This library was inaugurated after the lifetime of Thanthai Periyar on 17.09.1974, which was the 96th Birthday of Periyar. It was inaugurated as his Birthday remembrance by Dr.Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi, who was then the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The inauguration was presided over by Dr.Navalar Nedunchezhian, in the presence of Annai E.V.R. Maniammaiar.
